She had a short interactive session with the faculty on various issues regarding academic institutions, their vision and architectural education in the country. A guest lecture was organised for the IIIrd yr B.Arch students by eminent structural engineer Er. Ajay Tamhankar, Pune. He talked about the structural system and stability for a multi - storied office building. He discussed each and every students’ design in detail, which benefitted everyone in the design process.

As part of the Basic Design I exercise, which dealt with the building appraisal, a visit to the University of Pune was organised for the Ist year B. Arch students. The students visited the main building of the campus and IUCAA designed by veteran architect Ar. Charles Correa. It helped the students study and understand a building colonial architecture as well as contemporary architecture.

Famous classical Sitar artist, Mr. Vidhur Mahajan and conservationist Ar. Kiran Kalamdani, from Pune, were invited to talk about music and architecture and their interrelationship. It was a mesmerizing and a great learning for the students to listen to both of them.

Mr. Prakash Joshi from Pune conducted a very interesting workshop on “Calligraphy”. The workshop mainly consisted of students making their own attempts under Mr. Joshi’s guidance. They made book covers and wrote down their own names, This happened simultaneously as Mr. Joshi gave a live demonstration to everyone about using various techniques, mediums and instruments to enhance effects in calligraphy.

Mr. Kailash Taralekar, Pune introduced a unique concept of carving siporex blocks, which are a very widely used construction material in the building industry, to create art work and sculptures. In the workshop he showed students his own work and explained the method of carving these blocks using very simple tools.

Famous rtist and Sculptor, Mrs. Vidya Dengle, Pune held a workshop which included a short presentation of her own sculptures inspired by forms of nature and animals. In the latter half the students dabbled with clay to create their own sculptures giving them a first hand experience of dealing with clay as a material.

Ist yr B.Arch students visited Hande Wada, Umbraz, accompanied by Ar. Amit Hande, to study timber construction, joinery and detailing for the subject of Building Technology and Materials. The students studied two such wadas, one of which was finished with exposed brick. As a result students not just got to study the timber construction but also the brick masonry and the different bonds.

The Ist yr B.Arch .students visited the Anish Kapoor Exhibition held in Bandra, Mumbai . This exhibition focused on his recent work in polished steel pieces and mechanical works in red wax, including Shooting into the Corner (2008-09). it was a once in a life time opportunity for the students as such exhibitions are rare in India. The pieces displayed were previously displayed at the Royal Academy, London.

A workshop was organized by Ar. Prajakta Chakravarty for the Ist B. Arch students by Mr. Ashiwin Chikerur, M.Des IIT Powaii. The workshop aimed at making students understand techniques of representing the architectural expressions through use of sketching, color presentation etc. It intended to link all three subjects; Architectural Drawing and Graphics, Architectural Design and Basic Design. Vigyano Scholma, a sculptor from Germany visited the school and conducted a workshop on sketching for the Ist yr B.Arch students. He started with some warm up exercises to free the mind and the hand for better sketching. The students then sketched the models posing for them. The exercise helped them understand the basics of human proportions and also developed their sketching skills.

A jury was arranged for the students of III B.Arch for Residential School design project. Eminent architects Ar. Snehanshu Mukherji, New Delhi and Ar. Madhav Joshi, Pune were the jury members. The students got extremely valuable inputs from both the jury members, which helped them in mid course correction and fine tuning of their designs.

A visit was arranged to the ‘Creative Club’ for the Ist B.Arch students. The students got to see eminent artist Sujata Dharap’s work. In the interaction with students she talked about liberal arts, freedom of expression and abstraction. They also got an opportunity to interact with the eminent landscape architect Ar. Jayant Dharap. He emphasized on the importance of sketching in the field of architecture. In all it was a very creative and learning experience for the students and the faculty.

Eminent architect Ar. Anupama Kundoo, Auroville / Germany visited the school and went through the students academic work. She also interacted with all the students about creativity and expressed that one should not restrict herself / himself from creative ideas, as no idea is impractical. In the second week of the term, the 1st year students were taken to the previous campus of PVPCOA at Hadapsar. They studied and documented the entire display of students work and packed each and every panel very meticulously with a coding system, which was then brought to the new campus at Pirangut. The students got to learn design of exhibition space and also how a coding system and drawings can help communicate a space in detail.

Eminent architect Ar. Kabir Vajpeyi, New Delhi visited the school and conducted a lecture on the ‘Improving construction practices : Connecting with the traditional knowledge’. The lecture was based on brick as a construction material with respect to construction details, character and function as in the traditional architecture. He also expressed a need to revive traditional construction and management practices and apply the knowledge in practice.
